Product Engineer

About OLYX

OLYX is a brokerage company based in the heart of Amsterdam, operating within the fast-moving renewable energy market. We believe strong relationships, trust, and market expertise are at the core of successful trading. To date, we have facilitated more than €10 billion in deal value across a network of 700+ trading partners spanning Europe, Asia, and South America.

At OLYX, we are proud of our collaborative culture and the results-driven environment built by our international team of 40+ professionals. We celebrate success together, challenge each other to grow, and continuously look for ways to improve.

Join our Data Team and help build the products and systems that turn market activity and network intelligence into the tools and insights driving the business forward.

This is an on-site role based in central Amsterdam. As part of a small and highly collaborative team, you will take ownership of meaningful product areas from day one and play a key role in shaping how OLYX scales.

As a Product Engineer, you will work across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and product development. From refining user experiences and redesigning APIs to solving complex data challenges and improving developer tooling, no two weeks look the same.

Be part of the next stage of OLYX’s growth and help shape the future with us.

Responsibilities

  • Translate fuzzy problems into effective solutions. Design, build, and ship features end-to-end across frontend, backend, and infrastructure. You own the work from scoping with product and design through deployment, monitoring, and iteration. Most weeks, you’ll move between a UI polish task, an API redesign, and a thorny data question without losing momentum.
  • Treat data accuracy and security as a baseline, not a feature. Validate inputs, protect sensitive customer data, think about authorisation at every layer, and catch the subtle bugs that quietly corrupt data before they reach production.
  • Raise the bar on code quality, testing, and developer experience. Improving workflow and tooling is a first-class part of the job, not a side quest.
  • Participate in code review, product and technical discussions, and the on-call rotation shared across the team. Investigate incidents, fix the root cause, and write up what you learned. Support teammates: pair on tricky problems, leave thoughtful PR comments, share what you know.

About the job

  • 3+ years building production web or mobile applications, with meaningful experience on both frontend and backend. We care more about the depth of what you’ve shipped than the year count.
  • A product engineer at heart. You’re driven by impact, not just shipped tickets — you want to solve real problems and build things that move the business forward. You’re comfortable talking directly with stakeholders and end users to understand what they actually need (often different from what they initially ask for), and you can translate those conversations into concrete, well-scoped solutions. You think about the “why” behind the work and push back when something doesn’t add up.
  • AI-native in how you work. You actively use AI tools across your workflow — brainstorming approaches, researching unfamiliar territory, prototyping quickly, generating and reviewing code, writing tests, and drafting docs. You treat fluency with AI as a core engineering skill, not a novelty, and you’re always looking for ways to compound your output with it.
  • Build for scale, think in systems. You have a track record of delivering solutions that hold up as usage, data, and the team around them grow — not just code that works on day one. You think beyond the immediate feature to the system it lives in and the processes around it: how data flows, where bottlenecks emerge, what breaks first under load, and how the next engineer will extend it. You can point to specific projects where this thinking made a real difference.
  • Nice to have: experiences from the following industries: commodity brokers, market data providers, fintech, or data-heavy startups.

About you

  • You take ownership from problem to production, and communicate as you go. You spot what needs doing and drive it to shipped, pulling others in early, surfacing trade-offs and risks before they become problems, and keeping everyone on the same page, not just when something has gone sideways.
  • You’re genuinely curious about the renewable energy market and how brokerage actually works, as much as about technology. You want to understand what users do day-to-day and where the real friction lies. And you stay close to what’s new in the craft: tools, techniques, AI capabilities — anything that helps us build better products, faster.
  • You get energised by complex problems. You treat roadblocks as something to dig into rather than route around, and you have a habit of flagging them early with a proposed path forward, not just the flag.
  • You thrive on being close to the work and the people it’s for. You’re in the office with your teammates and side-by-side with end-users regularly , watching how they actually use what you’ve built, picking up the unspoken context, and turning that into a better product. You’d rather make the team smarter than look smart yourself.
