About the job

We are looking for a Senior Broker to support and expand the Biomethane desk at OLYX.

In this role, you will originate and facilitate transactions across the European biomethane market, with a strong focus on the Dutch market, connecting biomethane producers and project developers with gas companies, utilities, and trading houses.

The role requires strong commercial instincts and a deep understanding of the rapidly evolving European biomethane and renewable gas landscape, identifying arbitrage opportunities across physical and environmental attributes (e.g., GoOs, certificates), negotiating transactions, and ensuring compliance with sustainability and regulatory frameworks.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Deal Origination & Brokerage: Source, structure, and intermediate spot and long-term biomethane transactions (physical gas and certificates/attributes) across Europe, with a strong focus on the Dutch market. Identify and execute cross-border and cross-product arbitrage opportunities (e.g., between national support schemes, certificate markets, and physical gas hubs). Drive market liquidity and ensure efficient execution while maintaining high ethical and professional standards
• Market Analysis & Regulatory Compliance: Monitor pricing dynamics across biomethane, natural gas hubs, and certificate markets. Build in-depth knowledge of European and national regulatory frameworks, including:
  • RED II / RED III sustainability criteria
  • Guarantees of Origin (GoOs) and national registries (e.g., Vertogas, ERGaR, AIB)
  • Mass balancing and cross-border trade rules
  • Voluntary certification schemes (ISCC, REDcert)

  Track developments in subsidy schemes, grid injection tariffs, and decarbonization policies impacting supply and demand.

  Translate regulatory and market changes into actionable trading insights for clients.

• Client Engagement: Establish and nurture strong relationships with biomethane producers, project developers, utilities, and industrial client. Act as a trusted advisor by linking commercial opportunities to decarbonization strategies and compliance needs (e.g., Scope 1 reductions, fuel mandates)

 

About you

• Native Dutch speaker and fluent in English
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related field
• 3 years of experience in energy markets, brokerage, or renewable gas (biomethane experience strongly preferred)
• Strong understanding of European gas markets and/or renewable energy certificates
• Commercially driven with a deal-maker mindset
• Self-starter: proactive, resilient, and entrepreneurial
• Able to navigate complex and evolving regulatory environments
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
